Breast Lift

Oversized, hanging breasts can not only greatly affect a woman’s body consciousness, but also lead to stresful changes that occur especially in the areas of the chest, neck-neck and back. If you are suffering from it and you feel resrected by your breasts in your physical and sexual activities, you may consider breast reduction (reduction mammaplasty). Even normal sized breasts that have lost their fullness, elasticity and elasticity after pregnancy or after a heavy weight loss can be corrected. With a breast lift (mastopexy), which can also be combined with a breast implant, you get firmer and more youthful breasts that will change your body proportions for the better. Both the breast reduction and the breast lift can be performed at any age. However, as an important prerequisite, your body growth is complete and your breasts are fully developed. Generally, a smaller, lighter and firmer breast is achieved by removing excess skin, fat and breast tissue in the lower breast area. With the remaining upper portions, the surgeon forms a new breast. In addition, for optimal results, it may be necessary to remove excess fatty tissue or use a breast implant. Nipples and areola are usually associated with nerves and blood vessels. This ensures that you will continue to feel normal even after breast reduction or breast lift, and in most cases even retain your ability to breastfeed. Breast lift Before you decide to breast reduction or lifting, you should consult with your surgeon in detail, which results can be achieved taking into account your personal ideas and physical conditions.

What results can be achieved with a breast reduction / breast lift?

Breast reduction or lifting permanently changes the size and shape of your breasts. However, over the years, the natural aging process, weight changes and gravity will affect the shape of your breasts. In this case, re-operation can rejuvenate the appearance of your breasts.

Anesthesia and hospital stay

The breast reduction or lifting is usually performed inpatient. The necessary preliminary examinations are carried out the day before your appointment in the clinic. You also have the opportunity to discuss the anesthetic with the specialist. Depending on the procedure, a hospital stay of one to two days is to be expected.

How do I prepare for the operation?

In some cases, it may be useful to perform a mammogram and an ultrasound exam before surgery to detect any tissue changes prior to surgery before the age of 35. Your surgeon will talk to you about it. As a smoker, you should stop your nicotine consumption at least two weeks before your appointment to reduce the risk of wound edge necrosis. In addition, for the duration of 14 days before the operation you should refrain from using painkillers (eg aspirin), blood thinners, herbal supplements and vitamin support, as these delay the blood clotting and healing. Alcohol and sleeping pills should be largely avoided.

How is the operation going?

The surgical methods can vary greatly from case to case. In particular, the incisions depends largely on your individual ideas and physical conditions. Normally, two incisions are used: the incision runs around the areola and from its lower edge to the lower breast fold. In some cases, another cut along the natural breast crease is required. In the case of breast reduction, after removing the excess tissue, the remaining glandular body is reshaped, displaced upwards and secured there on the one hand with bruid sutures on the muscle and on the other hand through the skin tightening. When reshaping your breast, the nipple, along with nerves and blood vessels, will also be moved to the new position. With a small breast, which is only tightened, a breast implant can be used at the same time for enlargement and better shaping of the breast. The wound is closed intracutaneously with the finest threads and a tight fitting bandage is created. Drains ensure the outflow of blood and tissue fluid. Depending on the extent of the procedure takes two and a half to four hours.

What happens after breast reduction / breast lift?

Immediately after breast reduction or breast lift and during the next few days you will experience mild pain. In addition, as with any surgery, there will be more or less severe swelling and bruising, but this will resolve over several days and weeks. Also, the sensitivity of your nipples may be compromised after the procedure. It is not uncommon that it may take several months for you to feel normal again. A final result of breast surgery can be assessed in most cases after about six months. The scars and possible hardening in the tissue improve even over the following one to two years, so that they finally become inconspicuous.

Which risks have to be considered?

If there are allergies (to medications or care products) or other illnesses, you must inform us in any case. If you have noticeable bruises or if you have persistent bleeding after minor injuries, a coagulation disorder should be ruled out by a suitable examination just a few weeks before surgery. You should also tell your surgeon if you are planning to lose weight or become pregnant. In both cases, the breast shape can change significantly and affect the surgical result.

What complications can arise in a breast reduction / breast lift?

As with any surgery, wound healing disorders can lead to unsightly scars, permanent tension, pain and bruising, and infection. As soon as you notice something disturbing, talk to your surgeon about it. He will gladly advise you in detail and inform you if necessary about a suitable after-treatment. Due to the postoperative healing process, changes in the affected skin and tissue regions can lead to slight differences in the shape of the breast. Such changes can be corrected by another small intervention. Especially with large reduction weights of more than 500 grams per side, a sensation loss at the nipple is not excluded. In very rare cases circulatory disorders can cause tissue (even in the area of the nipples) is repelled. In this case, the affected tissue would have to be replaced by the body’s own skin with a new intervention.

Which after treatment is required?

Just a few days after the breast reduction or tightening your normal condition is largely restored. After about three to four weeks you are usually fully fit for work again. Depending on the technique of suturing and bandaging, you can take a shower as usual and start skincare after just a few days. Absorbable sutures dissolve by themselves, other sutures remain for up to 10-12 days to aid in fine scarring. Depending on your own condition, you should wear a brassiere as soon as possible after removing bandages and threads. This should sit optimally, support your chest and not constrict it. Mostly a special compression or support bra is recommended. You must wear this brassiere around the clock for at least 4-6 weeks. The uniform pressure of the brassiere counteracts excessive scarring. You will be informed about all further measures for individual follow-up treatment as well as about check-ups and corresponding appointments at discharge from the clinic.

What should be considered after the procedure?

During the first few weeks, you should move the upper arms very carefully, avoiding rapid stretching and stretching. It is also important that you do not sleep on your stomach, but supine, so as not to disturb the internal wound healing. You, and of course your sexual partner, should be extremely careful with your breasts for the next two months, avoiding any overuse. This also applies to sports activities and household work (eg ironing, window cleaning).
